18th Largest Producer of Vinho Verde

With 1,330,943 liters produced in the last Vinho Verde campaign, Santo Tirso occupies the 18th position of largest producing municipality in Portugal, out of a total of 48 municipalities, according to official data published by CIPVV for the 2020-2021 Campaign.

Location

The municipality of Santo Tirso borders to the north with Vila Nova de Famalicão and Guimarães, to the northeast with Vizela, to the east with Lousada, to the southeast with Paços de Ferreira, to the south with Valongo, to the southwest with Maia and to the west with Trofa.


Area and Population

With an area of ​​137 km², Santo Tirso currently has a population of 67,709 inhabitants (INE, 2021).

The municipality reached its peak population during the year 1991, when it had 102,593 inhabitants.

Santo Tirso, the second largest producer of Vinho Verde wines in the Ave sub-region, behind only Vila Nova de Famalicão, is a land of Vinho Verde wines (it belongs to the Vinho Verde Demarcated Region) and Quinta de Gomariz is worth a visit for oenologists and wine lovers.
