The municipality and city of Trofa belong to the district of Porto, located in the Greater Porto Metropolitan Area, in the former province of Douro Litoral, North region of Portugal.The city of Trofa is located on the left bank of the Ave River, 24 km north of the city of Porto.
Castro Trofa Wine Land
Castro Trofa DOC wine is light and fresh, "great to be enjoyed with appetizers or paired with light and balanced meals."The Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC) is made by the Viticulture Commission of the Vinho Verde Region, "with a guarantee seal on each bottle" [1].
Location
The municipality of Trofa, between Porto and Braga, located about 24 km north of the city of Porto, borders to the north with Vila Nova de Famalicão and Guimarães, to the east with Santo Tirso, to the south with the Maia and to the west with Vila do Conde.
Area and Population
With an area of 72 km², the municipality of Trofa currently has a population of 38,612 inhabitants (INE, 2021).In 2011, the municipality reached its peak population, when it had almost 39,000 inhabitants.
A little history
The origins of the municipality are ancient. French troops tried to invade the village, crossing the Ave River but were prevented from doing so by the population, in 1809.Tourist attractions in Trofa
