Alentejo Cuisine

Gastronomy and Cuisine of the Alentejo Region - The Kitchen of the Alentejo - Eat, drink and snack. A ritual in the Alentejo. It is worth remembering: the snack is a true Alentejo institution.

But there is much more than the tasty and varied snacks to accompany a glass of wine. The sausages (sausages) are also always at the table, or by hand, at all times.

Ham of Barrancos DOP

In these lands where the pork is among the most appreciated meats, the ham should not stand for less. And among several production sites (Campo Maior, Elvas, to mention only two), the ham of Barrancos DOP - made exclusively with the pork of the Alentejo breed - stands out and should not be missed.

Cheese from Alentejo

Land of good cheeses, the ones that stand out from the others are the Nisa DOP Cheese, the Évora DOP Cheese and the Serpa DOP Cheese. This last perhaps the most famous. All 3 are cheeses made from sheep's milk and are with PDO - Denomination of Origin Protected. There is also the Tolosa IGP Mestizo Cheese, produced with sheep's milk and goat's milk.

The Wines of Alentejo

A chapter apart, Alentejo wines are among the favorites of Caminha to V. R. de Santo Antonio. Besides the much appreciated IGP Vinho Regional Alentejano, there are DOCs that will please the most demanding palates.

Olive oil from Alentejo

Land of good cheeses, good wines and, above all, good olive oils. The olive groves are everywhere. In the Alentejo there is much more than cork oaks and wheat! Elvas and Campo Maior are the largest producers on an industrial scale using olives of protected origin. Note the three well-known brands of DOP Olive Oil: Moura Olive Oil, Alentejo North Olive Oil and Interior Alentejo Olive Oil.
